·         SERGEANT OF ARMS Alvin Mungin kicked off the meeting on time.

·         Bonnie Smith was the TOASTMASTER OF THE DAY.   Bonnie started the meeting with a Halloween theme.  Thanks Bonnie for the Halloween treats that you shared with all of us.

·         Joke master Linda Fairfax got us all started with roaring laughter with a few Halloween jokes.  The best one that I liked was ‘Who won the best skeleton contest?’  The answer:  ‘NOBODY’ J

·         Grammarian Priya Shanmugam gave us the Word of the Day – inchoate – that means ‘to be in an initial stage’.

·         Katie Patton gave her speech # 8 (Get Comfortable with Visual aids) titled ‘Riding Shotgun for the Day’.  Katie describer her day out with the U-verse technician crew whom she accompanied during the ‘U-verse ride’ day.   Katie used a power point slideshow to describe her extended day as it unrolled from 7:45 am to 7:30 pm installing U-verse at customer’s homes.  She also brought in a helmet, safety goggles and boots she wore on that ride for the audience to see.

·          “Woo Hoo’ was the title of Star Scott’s speech #10 (Inspire your audience).   Star spoke with enthusiasm about overcoming procrastination, lack of planning and self-accountability.  Star was very animated as she narrated the story of ‘The Little Engine that could’.  That is the story of the little engine who chanted I-think-I-can until he was able to climb uphill to go over a mountain because he believed in himself.  Star urges us to believe in ourselves and reiterated that we could achieve what we believe in.  Congratulations to Star on achieving the Competent Communicator. Woo hoo!

·         Vicki Robinson gave her storytelling speech # 2 (Let’s get personal) titled – ‘The Summer of 1977’ Vicki presented us with an animated, personal story of her experience with her uncle and her grandparents at their farm house in Mississippi, during the summer of 1977.  Vicki recounted her experience of making mud pies with fresh eggs from the hen house and her rather, unsuccessful attempts at driving her grandpa’s tractor.  Vicki’s vivid descriptions gave the audience an experience that we were all witnessing the runaway tractor and her uncle chasing behind her.  Vicki emphasized on the value of relationships in spite of the variations that they may take.

·          Sreedevi Dadithota – was speech evaluator #1 for Katie’s speech.  Sreedevi recalled the pertinent points from Katie’s speech while encouraging her to use a remote to change the powerpoint slides.

·          Paulava Carr-Morris evaluated Star Scot’s speech with encouragement about Star’s organized and confident speech.

·         Gregory Beauge’s evaluation of Vicki’s speech highlighted on the details and vocal variety that Vicki used in her spirited speech.

·         Thank you Priya Shanmugam for being the Grammarian and to Jayanth Jagannathan for being the Timer.
